Precyse Thought Leadership on Display at AHIMA 2013

Clients, colleagues and Advisory Council members present on an array of topics at the conference
Wayne, PA and Alpharetta, GA Oct 24, 2013 — Precyse, a leader in health information management (HIM) technologies and services, will share expertise during three separate educational sessions at the 85th Annual American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) Convention and Exhibit, October 26-30.
Kicking off the sessions is Lori Purcell, RHIA, CCS, Associate Director, ICD-10 and Educational Services at Precyse. Her presentation titled, “The Impact of ICD-10 on Ancillary Departments: Rely on the Principle of Specificity,” will explore the way ancillary departments can participate in a successful transition to ICD-10. It is critical these departments understand the process of coding and how documentation can ultimately impact the revenues of the facility. Participants will learn how to match the service (CPT code) with the diagnosis (ICD-10 codes). Purcell will also review common outpatient claim rejections and tackle problems with coding cheat sheets and documentation templates. This educational session will take place October 26, 4:15-5:15pm, during the Clinical Coding Community Meeting.
On Monday, October 28, Tom Ormondroyd, MBA, Vice President and General Manager, Precyse Learning Solutions, and Precyse University client Donielle Bailey, RHIA, ICD-10 Project Coordinator, UNC/Rex Health will present, “One Year Left: How to Prepare Your Documentation and Complete ICD-10 Education Before Time Runs Out.” With the implementation of ICD-10 less than a year away, this session will focus on how the transition will impact clinical documentation and what steps need to be taken to prepare. The presenters will outline best practices and insights on how to implement an ICD-10 education plan and how UNC/Rex Health is getting physician buy-in. Ormondroyd and Bailey’s presentation will take place 4:30-5:30pm.
Linda Kloss, MA, RHIA, FAHIMA, president Kloss Strategic Advisors and former CEO of AHIMA and Member of Precyse Advisory Council will be presenting with Karen J. Lawler, MPS, RHIA, CHPS, FABC, Director Health Information Management and Privacy Officer, Stamford Hospital. Their presentation titled, “Health Information Management in 2016: Guiding Principles and a Governance Framework for a Digital Age,” looks toward the future of HIM.
This presentation will represent the work of 30 top healthcare institutions in North America – working together toward the common goal of advancing effective HIM and governance. The group, called the HIM Innovation Community, began in 2011 to consider how health information management is changing and to share learning about how to facilitate positive change. Recently, the Community developed guiding principles for each component of the Information Management function.
