Precyse Encourages Clients to Continue ICD-10 Preparations

Amid distractions, healthcare organizations must remain steadfast and continue their ICD-10 implementation plans
Wayne, PA and Alpharetta, GA Jun 28, 2013 — Precyse, a leader in Health Information Management (HIM) technology and services, continues to encourage current and prospective clients to move forward with their ICD-10 preparations. Despite recent distractions, such as the American Medical Association (AMA) House of Delegates agreeing to lobby Congress and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) for a 2-year “grace period” for physicians to ensure accurate implementation following the October 2014 deadline, the deadline is holding fast. Farzad Mostashari, MD, the national coordinator for healthcare IT, stated last week there would be no extension of the deadline.
While these ramblings continue, there is a clear picture emerging that healthcare organizations are not ready. According to two separate recent surveys — one from the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) and the other from the Medical Group Management Association (MGMA) — ICD-10 readiness is lagging.
“There is certainly much hard work in the form of clinical documentation improvement, training and development, process improvement and systems testing to be completed between now and October 2014. We are telling our clients that now is not the time to procrastinate,” said Chris Powell, president of Precyse. “As physicians, hospitals and payers manage the ICD-10 transition amid other pressing initiatives, it is critical that we remind ourselves why ICD-10 is so important. ICD-10 gives physicians and hospitals better information about patient populations for use in quality and outcomes programs to help improve patient health, while allowing them to be appropriately reimbursed for the care provided. Staying resolute on this cutover date allows our industry to focus on the health of our nation’s hospitals, physicians and the patients whom we all ultimately serve.”

OsoBio names Kathleen Larese Director of Laboratories

Albuquerque, NM June 24, 2013 – OsoBio has named Kathleen Larese director of laboratories.
As part of OsoBio’s quality control department, the microbiology and chemistry laboratories that Larese now directs are responsible for environmental monitoring, analytical method development, and testing all incoming raw materials, components, and in-process and finished products involved in the company’s cGMP sterile manufacturing operations.
“Kathleen provides direction and organization to functions that help ensure the continuous quality of the sterile injectable drugs we manufacture – as well as the safety of the patients who rely upon them,” said Milton Boyer, president of OsoBio. “Managing a team of highly capable scientists fiercely committed to data integrity, Kathleen will drive operational excellence and deliver distinct value to our clients.”
Larese brings to OsoBio more than 10 years of management experience in laboratory operations responsible for regulatory compliance, project documentation, quality assurance, inventory management and waste disposal. Most recently, she was senior technical staff member at Sandia National Laboratories, where she used her black belt certification in Lean and Six Sigma to reduce waste and optimize operations.
Larese holds a master’s degree in business administration from the University of New Mexico Anderson School of Business, and is finishing her master’s degree in biomedical science from the university’s School of Medicine. She completed a graduate fellowship in nuclear and radiochemistry at San Jose State University, and holds an American Chemical Society-certified bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Western Washington University.

During this 3-year term, Ms. Doupnik will serve as the association’s President-Elect in 2013-2014, President from 2014-2015, and Past-President from 2015-2016.
FHIMA’s new leadership will take their offices starting July 23, 2013, when they are inducted during the FHIMA annual conference in Orlando, FL. This year, as President-Elect, Ms. Doupnik will focus on keeping the lines of communication open with the association’s membership, including the leaders of
the nine regional component associations. She also will help FHIMA members with educational opportunities and she will oversee the organization’s Leadership Conference being held in August.
